MASK: JUST WEAR IT.
Members, we know mask fatigue is real. Our ability to continue to build and remodel homes is dependent upon workers in the industry wearing proper face coverings. Help protect your jobs, our community and the construction industry by wearing a mask.
We are partnering with the Small Business Outreach team at the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) to educate construction companies about the jobsite requirements specific to COVID-19. Knowing the rules and regulations can help you keep your employees and customers safe and avoid the penalties that can come with not complying to requirements.
You may have heard about one Vancouver-based company, fortunately not a member or an industry company, that is facing $4,500 in fines for failure to enforce mask use. Other companies are experiencing much higher fines and penalties, even as much as losing their business license. Is the gamble worth it? We don’t think so. If you don’t enforce mask use or other aspects of the COVID-19 workplace guidance, you could be at-risk for the same penalties, which could push some of our smaller builders and subcontractors into closing completely.
While it feels like life will never return to the way it was before COVID, our only chance at returning to some normalcy is by doing what we can to stop the spread of the virus. It’s not about political ideology, it’s about doing what we can to keep employees safe, construction building and helping other industries reopen.
We challenge you to hold yourself and others accountable on and off the jobsite. Use the hashtag #JustWearIt with a picture of yourself wearing a mask on the jobsite for a chance to be featured on our social media pages.
We will be publishing COVID-19 specific content like this to keep you compliant with all that is required by L&I and the Construction Jobsite Guidance at www.biaofclarkcounty.org/covid. Visit this webpage anytime you’re confused, looking for advice or clarification, and general information about construction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
