Governor Proclaims February as CTE Month
Governor Jay Inslee has issued a proclamation recognizing Career and Technical Education Month in February 2021. The proclamation was requested by both the BIAW and the Washington Association of Career and Technical Education. It recognizes CTE as “the opportunity to gain the academic, technical and employability skills necessary for true career readiness.”
Meaningful experiences
The proclamation acknowledges the importance of providing authentic, meaningful experiences to improve the quality of students’ education. It also recognizes how CTE increases engagement and achievement.
Addressing skills gaps
The proclamation highlights the “increasing challenges related to addressing the skills gap and connecting qualified professionals with available careers in critical and growing CTE-related fields.” It specifically calls out construction, healthcare, energy, advanced manufacturing, and information technology.
The proclamation is another way BIAW is raising awareness about the importance of CTE as we work to develop the workforce of tomorrow!
Apply for scholarships now
BIA of Clark County’s scholarship and tool grant applications are now available. Apply by July 1, 2021 for consideration.
BIA of Washington has also announced a record-breaking $60,000 in scholarships and funding grants. Grants are available to organizations offering programs in:
- Construction-related fields of study;
- Residential construction career training;
- Continuing education;
- Apprenticeship;
- Skills assessment services; and
- Technical training programs educating tomorrow’s home builders.
- The deadline to submit a scholarship or grant application is Friday, May 14, 2021.
